Edmonton Open Results: Good Showing by El Diablo aka Rob Rakochey

Rob Rakochey mopped the floor with the competition in the 2016 Edmonton Open Handball Championships.  He slammed in Master Singles and Doubles with partner (and brother) Daryl Rakochey.  Rob put an old school beat down on Guy Martin in singles.  It was truly a battle of attrition but Rob was able to over power Guy with drive serves, superior retrieving and pungent odor.  Rob's Zumba training regiment paid dividends in the second game as Guy was not able to keep up with the torrent pace set by "El Diablo".  On the doubles side, with a combined weight of more than 350lbs, brothers Rob and Daryl were able to fend off the tandem of Sean and his father "Blood Bath" Bill McGrath.  Sean was able to control the court in the doubles game but part way through game 1 it was apparent that perspiration levels and humidity in the court increased to a level in which no ordinary human could possibly function.  The effect was particularly hard on the McGrath team and they succumbed to the Rakochey pair.  It was also noted that this was the first time the Rakochey brothers had played together in over a decade.  It appears they have buried the proverbial "hatchet" following an incident during a game 13 years ago. Many people in the handball community speculated that they would never play doubles together again.  The separation was likened to the splitting of the wrestling tag team, The Rockers, which featured Shawn Michaels and Marty Jannetty.  Nice to see that time has healed the emotional hurt that existed between Rob and Daryl.

CHA and World's fundraising - ability to provide charitable receipts

To all that were at the Westerns' this past weekend, what a great tourney - great numbers of participants, hospitality, level of play, enthusiasm - was the best tourney in years and thanks once again to Daryl Rakochey and his team who put on a great event.

We talked a lot about the World's all weekend, and we had some questions about sponsorship and donations. I attach again our sponsorship document, and we are delighted to receive direct donations from any sponsors. If you, or someone else, needs or wants a tax receipt for the donation, they can make the donation to the CHA, and the details are in the other attachment. I state below my previous message on this topic. If you need or want to talk to me about this, just call me directly at 403-267-8234.

We are inside of 3 months from the start of the 2015 World Handball Championships in Calgary - August 11-21, 2105. And we need your support. We have a sponsorship goal of raising $100,000 to support this event, and we are only 1/3 of the way there. We have recently discovered that the CHA has the ability to provide charitable receipts for your donations to the CHA, the details of which are set out in the attached document. Please support the CHA so they can in turn support Canadian events such as the 2015 World Handball Championships. Keep in mind that any amount helps the cause, and if we can get 300 people to donate at least $100 each(for which you will all get recognition), that alone would raise a minimum of $30,000!! For those that are also interested, we will be hosting a special sponsor thank you dinner one night during the World's solely for all sponsors who donate $1000 and above - it will be spectacular.

If you want to make a donation to support the CHA which in turn will be supporting the World's and need a charitable receipt, please send an email to Rob Rakochey and Paul Klotz at sponsorship@worldhandball2015.com and let them know what you are sending to the CHA. Then follow the instructions on the document below to make your donation and receive your receipt.

AHA Annual General meeting and BBQ

To all AHA members.  Please find attached the Notice of our Annual General meeting to be held on Saturday, June 20, at 3 pm at the Rakochey residence. That morning, the AHA executive will be meeting to discuss the past year, and make the plans and budgets for the coming year. We hope that everyone who can come will attend to hear about what your executive has done in the past year, and what our plans are for the 2015-16 year. This is your time to come and have input, ask questions, and know what is going on. If you want to get involved in the executive, this is your time as well.  After that very short meeting, we will host our annual summer BBQ. Please bring your whole family - spouses, kids - everyone. We hope that the weather will allow us all to be outside, but we have plenty of room inside as well. With the AGM to be held at 3 or so, we hope that part will be done by 3:30, and then we can all visit and play and I can show off some of my new break dancing moves I have been working on. All food and drink will be provided compliments of the AHA. Dinner will probably be around 5:30 or so. You will eat what you are served and you will like it! We hope you will all attend. If you are coming, and so that we can plan for the numbers, please call Launie Rakochey at 403-247-4323 or you can email her at launiepeeper@hotmail.com to let us know of you are coming and how many.  Rob Rakochey - AHA President & lover of Jalapeno Poppers
